About Jayne
Jayne M. Skoog, educator, conductor, director and singer is working as a full time professional music educator and performer. From the age of five she has played the piano, performed on stage in various dramas and musicals, and has sung in school and church choirs. At fifteen, she began pursuing a deeper classical singing career, where her interest in musical theatre drew her to opera.
From completing her vocal performance degree at the University of Denver - Lamont School of Music, Jayne moved to New York City to further her operatic career where she studied at the Juilliard School. She has studied with Maestro Franco Iglesias, Sherry Overholt and renowned coaches such as Joan Krueger, Audrey Saint-Gil, Jennifer Hoppe, Valerie Trujillo, and Steven Crawford.
As a professional performer, Jayne performs and works with Damien L. Sneed - Chorale Le Chateau, Platinum Gospel Recording Artist - David Bratton, and Grammy Nominee - Stanley Brown, as well as with the following professional organizations: Supreme Creative Agency, Opera America, The Metropolitan Opera, New York Philharmonic, Carnegie Hall and Jazz at Lincoln Center.
As an educator, Jayne received her masters degree in science of education from Queens College, and a second masters degree in administrative leadership from the College of St. Rose. Jayne is currently teaching at Talent Unlimited High School, a performing arts high school, in New York City. She is the director of choral activities and the opera studio. Her choral directing achievements have placed her in Carnegie Hall, David Geffen Concert Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and The Apollo Theatre in New York City. As a result of this program, Jayne has established extensive artistic relationships with the New York City Opera and the Metropolitan Opera Education Programs. These relationships continue to foster students’ achievement in performance opportunities.
Birthed from her vision of introducing opera to young people, Jayne has created, developed and implemented music curriculum that has been awarded by the The Metropolitan Opera Education Guild Department in partnership with Larry Scripp, Music-In-Education National Consortium and the New England Conservatory. Her curricular achievements have been recognized by the New York State Education Department. Jayne’s tenure in the Department of Education has resulted in the development of a curriculum with an in-depth study of IPA - International Phonetic Alphabet, fostering a deeper comprehension of reading and writing.
